Who We Are

The City of Rancho Cordova's Tree Canopy Programs offer an extensive set of programs and tree services that increase tree canopy and promote a healthier and more robust urban forest.

These programs are implemented by Community Engagement, the City Arborist and a long running contract with the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

Through tree planting events, educational opportunities and additional support, the city tree team has cultivated close partnerships with the Public Works and Planning Departments as well as community partnerships such as Cordova Recreation and Parks Districts, neighborhood groups, and local school districts.

What We Do

The Benefits of Trees:

Trees are an important part of our city’s infrastructure that provide an array of benefits to our community that cannot be replicated. Some of the key benefits of urban trees include:

  • Improved air quality and removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere

  • Increased shade for energy conservation, as well as better shading for sidewalks, trails and bikeways

  • Reduction in stormwater runoff and surface flooding

  • Improved habitat for desirable wildlife

  • Reduced health risks to residents due to enhanced environmental conditions

  • Increased economic value to properties and increased economic activity

  • Increased stability and desirability of neighborhoods, as well as beautification

With increasing those benefits in mind, the city offers the following:

  • Free trees for residents, businesses and organizations

  • Free stump removal for residents

  • Tree advice from the City Arborist

  • Community tree-planting events
